Africa-Press – Angola. The Mineral Resources sector in Angola is challenging and continues to seek to attract investment and discover new geological mining potential to exceed production of 10 million carats annually.

This statement was made this Monday by the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Correia Victor, when speaking to the press on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 2024 mining worker days, taking place until the 27th of this month, in Luanda.

The official said that the sector is also working on the development of the sector’s multiple value chains.

He mentioned that the sector is quite diversified, so the investment will allow a significant increase in production.

In relation to gold production, he made it known that there are some geological occurrences, and, with the surveys of the National Geology Plan, the country has maps with greater details that allowed considerable bets to be made in terms of investment.

According to Jânio Victor, at this point the challenge involves increasing the production of precious stones and metals, increasing the production and processing of ornamental rocks and the use of non-metallic resources such as iron, phosphate and potassium.

Likewise, due to the increase in the production of ferrous metals, the increase in diamond cutting and the increase in geological knowledge of Angola, with a view to creating maps and updating the inventory of mineral resources existing in the country.

“Just as we continue to promote good governance practices such as rigor and transparency in the granting of mining rights”, he highlighted.

Among the activities of the Minas Gerais worker’s day, highlights include the awarding of the Catoca Journalism Prize, the opening of the chess championship, a moment of poetry, a workshop on gold, a photographic exhibition, the launch of a book and the Minas Gerais cycling prize.

The Secretary of State mentioned the inauguration of some projects currently set up in mining companies in the province of Cabinda, as well as talking about the existence of gold production in the provinces of Huambo and Huíla, which is why the aim is to encourage national and foreign investors and large multinationals to face the reality of gold in Angola.

He explained that Angola has mines, but “it is starting so that they can be something valuable for the country and that will contribute to the jewelry industry”.

In this sense, he pointed out the existence of Geoangola, owned by ENDIAMA, which is currently building a gold refinery so that this product can be refined in the country.

Mining Workers’ Day was established on April 27, 1985, by the then Defense and Security Council of Angola, in recognition of the performance of this segment of the national economy, which transforms the mineral resources available to the country into wealth.

The Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas celebrates the anniversary by holding technical and scientific days in the provinces of Luanda, Huambo, Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul, characterized by activities that involve entities linked to the sector, under the motto “A evolution and prospects of mining activity in Angola”.
