Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Huambo Psychiatric Hospital, Celeste Loth, expressed concern yesterday with family members who abandon patients hours after admission, despite the various awareness campaigns carried out by the health unit.
The official said that the psychiatric hospital sees an average of eighty patients a day, but the management so far admits the concern with abandonment of these family members and the shortage of medicines.
“Despite the awareness campaigns that the institution promotes and some family reintegration actions, after completing the treatment phases, we still feel this problem of patient abandonment,” lamented Celeste Loth.
According to the director, “organic psychoses” continue to be the major causes of events in the hospital’s emergency room, followed by cases of alcohol and drugs and then depression.
Celeste Loth made it known that the hospitalization ranged from 100 to 200 patients before. At this point, it has an average of more than 15 hospitalized patients, as there are many patients on the streets. “In this context, there is a guideline for your referral to the hospital, for proper treatment,” explained the doctor.
The Huambo psychiatric hospital is dedicated to the treatment, prevention and reintegration of patients with mental disorders and behavioral changes. At the institution, patients from the provinces of BiƩ, Benguela, Cuando Cubango, Malanje and Moxico are treated.
Celeste Loth appealed to those in charge of education to be careful with the children, in the sense of dialoguing and controlling the signs of symptoms of the people, because, behind this there are several dependencies, some of which are caused by negative consequences and the abusive use of drugs, alcohol, the Internet, which are associated with anxiety.
