Africa-Press – Angola. The reference prices of the main products of the basic basket for the week of March 28 to April 3 recorded a decrease of 19.9 percent compared to November last year, following the activation of the Strategic Food Reserve (REA).
Forecasts for the period indicate that the price of a 25-kilogram bag of wheat flour, worth 11,400 kwanzas, drops 50.5 percent, the same amount of cornmeal, 9,300 kwanzas drops 32.6 percent, and the value of 50 kilos of sugar, from 22,800 kwanzas, fell by 5.8 percent.
The price of 25 kilos of Thai rice drops to 8,500 kwanzas (minus 27.6 percent), 12 liters of soy oil to 13,150 Kz (minus 24.6), the value of a box of 10 kilos of chicken thighs drops to 7,500 (26.4% less) and the 25-kilogram Pinto beans rise to 26,700 kwanzas (11.3 percent more), at prices valid for the entire national territory.
These data were compiled by Jornal de Angola based on the most recent price update of the Strategic Food Reserve. In the international market, there was a reduction of 1.15 percent, compared to the previous week, but an increase of 28 percent in prices compared to last November, thanks to the impact of the war in Ukraine, according to the data.
Rice, in particular, increased 43 percent more than in November last year. Sugar registered a decrease of 4.0 percent in the same period.
