Africa-Press – Angola. The Deputy Governor of Cabinda for Political and Social Affairs, Miguel de Oliveira, stated this Sunday that the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, in addition to granting sovereignty to certain countries in Southern Africa, dignified the people of this region of the continent, the cradle of humanity.
The governor made these words to the press after laying a wreath of flowers on the tomb of unknown soldiers, as part of the 37th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, which took place from December 1987 to March 1988.
According to the Deputy Governor, there is an urgent need to continue honouring all those who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the southern region of the continent, with actions that have a social impact for the well-being of the population.
To this end, he called on educational institutions to promote this heroic feat more widely so that future generations are aware of the recent history of the country, in particular, and of the southern region of the continent, in general.
The provincial delegate of the Forum of Combatants of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale in Cabinda, António Capita, called for more government action in support of the heroes of this famous battle.
He reported that more than 100 combatants involved in agricultural projects are being monitored in Cabinda.
