Africa-Press – Angola. In view of the economic and social degradation that the country is experiencing, the leadership of the Democratic Bloc (BD) and the Democratic Progress Party – National Alliance of Angola (PDP-ANA) met yesterday in Luanda and appealed to all democratic forces, parties, civic movements and citizens in general to the need to join forces for Angola, in a common front for change, which should occur in 2027.
In their joint political declaration on the political and social situation in Angola, the political parties Bloco Democrático (BD) and Partido Democrático Progresso – Aliança Nacional de Angola (PDP-ANA) state that, although Angola is on track to complete 50 years of Independence, it continues to show no signs of improvement.
The two political parties, through their leaderships, “throw” the blame on the party in power, for having adopted a mentality and logic of governance that prioritized the single party and remains in an autocratic regime, conditioning the lives of many Angolans, for the benefit of a minority group that appropriated the general effort.
The two political parties claim that the country’s deterioration is due to the worsening of anti-social policies, the dissemination of anti-democratic content and the deepening of partisan legislation and fascist and hate-based practices. They argue that this line of action also aims to prevent fair competition between political forces, achieved through the use of public media outlets, which they accuse of promoting social alienation and cunning manipulation to divide and weaken the opposition political forces.
Both forces claim that the bodies responsible for organizing and deliberating the results of the electoral process, namely the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and the Constitutional Court (TC), are captured by the party in power, preventing democratic alternation from taking place, with civilizational tranquility, within electoral standards and denying, as a consequence, the sovereign right of the people to decide at the ballot box.
The BD and the PDP-ANA appeal to all democratic forces, parties, civic movements and citizens in general to the need to join forces for Angola, in a common front for change, which must occur in 2027. In their joint statement, the two political forces understand that there can no longer be hesitation, as the regime in power has demonstrated not only an inability to carry out the democratic transition, but also a lack of will to respond to the needs of the people. They accuse it of perpetuating corruption, injustice and disrespect for fundamental rights.
The BD and the PDP ANA advocate that only through joint efforts will the autocratic security state be overcome, since no isolated force or dispersed forces, in the current circumstances, are in a position to confront the regime, which is based on powerful mechanisms for maintaining power. The two parties also understand that the democratic and prosperous future of Angola requires the vitality of the combined and coordinated action of the opposition for change and of civil society.
“The BD and the PDP-ANA reiterate their appeal to all parties that want to change the regime, civil society organizations, students, workers and all Angolans who yearn for change to converge in a movement of unity and hope. This is the moment to show our collective strength and to fight together for a better future for Angola. United, we are stronger and more capable of overthrowing this regime and building the nation that we all deserve,” said Filomeno Vieira Lopes, president of the Democratic Bloc.
The politician understands that this change of regime is fundamental, as it represents the starting point for the construction of true democratic institutions. The president of the PDP ANA, Abreu Capitão, said that the political parties in opposition have done their part, but he reminded that the effort of the entire society is necessary to demonstrate against everything that is not good for the people.
