Africa-Press – Angola. At least 20.2 billion kwanzas have already been made available by the Development Bank of Angola (BDA) for the implementation of 81 projects in the tourism sector across the country, since 2006.

Of these projects, 77 are from the Credit Support Program (PAC) financing line, in the last two years and four are from the National Development Fund (FND), managed by the BDA, since 2006.

When addressing this issue, at the weekend, in the presentation of the third panel “The role of financial institutions in supporting tourism projects”, at the International Tourism Exchange (BITUR), the BDA’s South regional delegate, Vivaldo Quitongo, said that the PAC financed in all provinces of the country.

In terms of financing, he highlighted that at the level of the South regional delegation (Huíla, Namibe and Cunene) the BDA supported eight projects valued at more than 380 million kwanzas, out of 3.2 billion in projects.

The BDA’s FND, according to Vivaldo Quitongo, has funded projects in the provinces of Cabinda, Luanda and Benguela since 2006, when the bank opened, in financing of 16.9 billion kwanzas.

He made it known that in the PAC there will be an increase in disbursements, as they have a global number of more than one hundred projects.

“We are very focused on credit recovery, on collecting PAC projects, because the first group has mostly already expired, which is why we are in the credit repayment period, in the sense of being able to continue with disbursements”, he explained.

Vivaldo Quitongo said that the banking institution is more focused on the primary sector, but does not rule out the possibility of financing services, including tourism.

He reaffirmed that it is not directly part of the national Tourism Promotion Plan (PLANATUR), but the BDA will continue to support tourism, through services and via PAC and FND.

In addition to the topic on “The role of financial institutions in supporting tourism projects”, BITUR debated two more panels, namely “The role of the State in boosting tourism” and “Multisectoral coordination for a harmonious development of tourism”, at an event which took place from the second to the fourth of the current month.
