The Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Labour, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, guaranteed, this Wednesday (23), in Brussels, the support of the Government of his country to companies that are interested in the Angolan market, namely in the field of port and railway infrastructure, energy and water, and diamond processing.

The guarantee was given at a meeting that Pierre-Yves Dermagne had with the Angolan Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Manuel Nunes Júnior, who is participating today in the 1st European Union-Angola Business Forum, says a note from the Institutional Communication Office and Press of the Angolan ruler.

The minister said that the Belgian Government welcomed the reforms underway in Angola and expressed its willingness to support companies interested in investing in the country.

According to the note, the main objective of the meeting was to deal with economic matters with mutual advantages and to seek to attract foreign direct investment, namely from Belgium.

Reforms in Angola

Minister of State Nunes Júnior informed that the country is carrying out “structural political and economic reforms”. At the political level, he said, it is consolidating the Democratic State and the Rule of Law. “In this process, we are undertaking a serious fight against corruption , so that it is very clear that no one is above the law and all citizens must respect it”, he said.

At an economic level, he said, Angola wants “an efficient market economy, marked by the diversification of the economy”. economy and development of our country”, he said.

Belgium is the fifth largest destination for Angolan exports in Europe, having registered a volume of around US$480 million and ranks third in the list of Europe’s largest exporters to Angola, with a record of more than US$1,600 million, in the last three years.

Data from the Agency for Private Investment and Export Promotion (AIPEX) reveal that the volume of Belgian investments in Angola, from 2018 to December 2021, is estimated at around US$24.5 million.

The Minister of State for Economic Coordination leads an Angolan government delegation that is in Brussels, Belgium, to participate, today, in the 1st European Union-Angola Business Forum.

At the meeting with the Belgian deputy prime minister, Manuel Nunes Júnior, he was accompanied by the ministers of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, of Agriculture and Fisheries, Francisco Assis, of Industry and Commerce, Víctor Fernandes, of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, Secretary of State for Cooperation, Domingos Vieira Lopes and the Angolan ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Mário Constantino.
