Africa-Press – Angola. The Huatong Angola Aluminum Industrial Park in Bengo province exported on Friday 1,000 tons of aluminum to the Netherlands. Pedro Katendi, the director of the Bengo Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development, witnessed the loading operation of the first batch, consisting of 40 containers.

Huatong’s commercial director, Shi Guoxing, said the factory currently produces 240 tons of aluminum daily and expects to increase production in May.

He announced that the second shipment, consisting of 7,000 tons of aluminum, will leave in April. Shi Guoxing added that, in addition to exports, Huatong Angola is serving the domestic market and has already sold 500 tons of aluminum.

Phase 1 of the Huatong Angola Aluminum Industrial Park, inaugurated in January, has an annual capacity of 120,000 tons of electrolytic aluminum. This phase represents an investment of 250 million dollars and has allowed for the direct creation of 1,200 jobs.

The venture is the result of a partnership between the Chinese consortium Hebei Huatong Wire & Cables Group Co. Ltd. , Huatong Angola Industry, Ltd., and is expected to create around 12,000 jobs upon completion.

Phase 2 is already underway and will double production to 240,000 tons per year with an additional investment of around 500 million US dollars.

The Huatong Aluminum Industrial Park is located in the Barra do Dande Free Development Zone. It will have five development phases, with an estimated total investment of $1.6 billion over eight to ten years.
