The High Performance Center, named José Armando Sayovo, located in Búcula, in Caxito, is one of the greatest gains of National Independence for the population of the province of Bengo. Started in 2022, the construction of the building, the first of its kind in the country, is progressing at a good pace, with completion scheduled for next year.Budgeted at 70 million dollars, the Sports Complex is being built on an area of ​​eight hectares, and includes a football field with an athletics track, an Olympic swimming pool, multipurpose courts, a residence with capacity for 250 athletes, a gym, a secondary school, a cafeteria, and an administrative and social area.

The works are being carried out by the construction company Koran Angola and are approaching the final stretch.

Yuri Silva, director of the Bengo provincial office for Youth and Sports, said that the “José Armando Sayovo” High Performance Centre is a great achievement for the province, as it will encompass a range of sports. “It is the greatest gift we have received in the 49 years of Angola’s Independence. We are proud of the creation of this infrastructure in Bengo. In fact, we are the first province in the country to have a sports undertaking of this size”, highlighted the official.

Once the project was inaugurated, Yuri Silva drew the attention of users and the public to the need to preserve the sports facility. “I would like to take this opportunity to urge athletes and locals to preserve the property. The Angolan government has made a huge investment to ensure that sport in Bengo can grow. We must have a culture of preserving public assets,” he appealed.

António João, chairman of the board of directors of LK do Capari, said that the High Performance Centre will boost the province’s growth in sports. “Sports in Bengo could grow within five years. It is a multi-purpose project. Bengo will have a say in national sports,” the director warned.

Mandjel Zua, president of the Bengo Provincial Handball Association, spoke about the growth of the sport in the region, since the sports complex has multipurpose courts. “I have no doubt that handball in Bengo will take a qualitative leap. It is a project that makes us proud,” he concluded.
