Africa-Press – Angola. Around 600 new projects should be implemented in Benguela province, in the five-year period 2022/27, to improve the living conditions of citizens, announced the local governor, Luís da Fonseca Nunes.
In a conversation with journalists, Luís Nunes said that the Education and Health sectors continue to benefit from a larger budget.
By way of example, he said that Education has 35 percent of the budget.
“We want to build and equip more than 178 schools and benefit thousands of children”, he explained.
Luís Nunes expressed his apprehension at the fact that more than 300,000 children are still studying in inappropriate classrooms.
As for Health, the construction and equipping of more than 36 hospital units are planned to reduce the distances for those populations that seek these services, reducing the mortality rate and the major endemic diseases.
Regarding current projects, the governor said that there are 172 projects.
Of these, Education benefited from 31 percent, with more than 400 classrooms.
For Health, it was seventeen percent, with ten medical centers and two municipal hospitals.
As for the communication routes, more than 250 kilometers of earthen road and 36 km of paved road were built.
In the water sector, 80 small collection systems were created, while for energy, lighting networks and thermal power stations were rehabilitated and expanded.
“Many projects from 2022 have moved to this year,” he said.

Regarding the emergency works underway in the coastal cities (Benguela and Lobito), the governor visited the work on the road on Rua 31 de Janeiro, 1,700 kilometers long, which passes by the General Hospital of Benguela.
According to the contractor’s infrastructure coordinator, Álvaro Lopes, the works are running smoothly, although there is no time frame for delivery, due to situations that arise.
As for the continuation of the waterfront, the repair of a road of five thousand and five hundred meters, seven wide, divided into two lanes, is underway. This part of the Palace and reaches the fishermen’s area.
Asked about the deadline for delivery of the water supply project to the high seas of Lobito, he said that he is depending on receiving the pumps to bring the water to the site.
“The infrastructures are at a good pace and the 400 mm pipeline has already reached the centrality”, stated the governor.
