Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Bié will be absent from the Miss Angola pageant, for the eighth consecutive time, due to lack of money, said, this Monday, the chairman of the pageant’s local committee, Henrique Arsénio.
Since 2016, Bié has not held a gala to elect the most beautiful woman in the province, with the last contest taking place in 2015, which culminated in the election of Evalina Gabriel.
Speaking this Monday, the president of the Miss Bié Committee said that, in addition to the lack of money, the last pageant was pinched with some shortcomings regarding the prize for the winner.
He revealed that to date the winner has not been awarded, which is why, he said, the direction of the Miss Bié Committee decided to suspend all competitions, in case the situation is not resolved.
“It makes no sense for the committee to create conditions with partners to hold a new pageant while there are pending issues with Miss Evalina Gabriel, elected in 2015”, he maintained.
According to Henrique Arsénio, the organization defined, for the 2015 contest, the attribution of a Hyundai branded vehicle, model i10, to the winner.
He stated that the Miss Bié Committee will work hard with partners, whether state or private, to seek sponsorships, in order to reverse the situation, revealing that a Miss Bié pageant, at provincial level, is endorsed at 15 million kwanzas .
The Miss Angola pageant gala is scheduled for this month, in the country’s capital, Luanda.
In the absence of a representative, the Miss Angola Committee carries out a casting with candidates residing in Luanda, but linked to the absent province.
In 2001, the young Hidianeth Cussema, from Bié, was crowned Miss Angola.
