Africa-Press – Angola. Writer Boaventura Cardoso and composer Rosa Roque were honoured in Luanda for their work in favour of culture and art, particularly in promoting and promoting the importance of Copyright and Related Rights. The award was given in recognition of the commitment of the honourees for their contribution to the arts over the years. The honourees received certificates of merit from the hands of the Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau. Those honoured by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Fernando Faria and Adélio Sacramento, received the award from the hands of the Minister’s representative Alan Varela.
Boaventura Cardoso said that being honoured, he feels that his achievements are being recognised. For many years, he said, he held the position of Minister of Culture and closely followed the issue of Copyright and Related Rights.Today, he explained, he believes that the country is beginning to create and strengthen the legal structures and mechanisms that have been continuing an entire process on the issue of Copyright and Related Rights and Intellectual Property. Creators as a whole, he argued, must take care of the protection of their works. Intellectual Property, he stressed, faces several challenges, as does the country.
“We are on the right track, we have structures and initiatives have emerged that lead us to believe that we are working towards greater protection of artists’ copyrights”, he acknowledged.
The designer Adélio Sacramento, who is attached to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, explained that it is a great honour to be distinguished and that he feels satisfied with all the performance shown over the years. “We have dedicated ourselves to being able to follow the same path as some more developed countries that have been advanced in terms of Intellectual Property for many years”.
Adélio Sacramento stressed that with the little knowledge he has on this subject, he wants to continue to contribute to leveraging the issue of intellectual property. The country, he said, still faces major challenges in terms of Intellectual Property, but he believes that the greatest difficulty lies in the dynamism of people in implementing projects.
The award was made during a seminar held in the auditorium of the Parish of São Paulo, in Luanda, as part of the celebrations of International Intellectual Property Day, celebrated on the 26th of this month, as well as World Book and Copyright Day, celebrated on the 23rd of April.
