Africa-Press – Angola. Writer Boaventura Cardoso is the guest today, at 19 pm, of another debate edition of the Angolan Academy of Letters, with broadcast on the zoom platform and moderation by writer and anthropologist Virgílio Coelho. Boaventura Cardoso launched, on the 11th of this month, his latest literary work “Margens e Travessias”, a historical novel presented by the poet, professor and literary critic Abreu Paxe, at the Saidy Mingas auditorium, at the Museu da Moeda.

The writer is a founding member of the Angolan Writers Union (UEA) and the Angolan Academy of Letters (AAL), of which he was the first president. He is the author of the short story books “Dizanga dya Muenhu” (1977), “O Fogo da Fala” (1980) and “A Morte do Velho Kipacaça” (1987) and the novels “O Signo do Fogo” (1992), “May, Month of Mary” (1997), “Mother, Materno Mar” (2001) and “Vigil Nights” (2012). Awarded with the National Prize for Culture and Arts in 2001, he is an honorary member of the Academia Palmense de Letras and Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit since 2006.

Boaventura Cardoso has a degree in Social Sciences. A career politician and diplomat, he was Secretary of State for Culture, Minister of Culture, Minister of Information, provincial governor of Malanje and Ambassador to France, Italy, Malta and to United Nations bodies. He is currently a member of the National Assembly for the MPLA Bench, being president of the Commission for Culture, Religious Affairs, Media, Youth and Sports.

The program of the Angolan Academy of Letters this month opened with a debate by the editor João Ricardo with the theme “Democratizing the dissemination of knowledge”, followed by Arlindo Isabel with “O Desafio das Editoras em Angola”, both interventions moderated by the writer and university professor António Quino.

Last Thursday, Ondjaki with “Let’s talk about the Future” preceded the presence of Boaventura Cardoso, who closes the monthly cycle, both with the moderation of Virgílio Coelho.
