Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty-six cultural agents from the province of Cabinda were distinguished Wednesday by the local government, due to their contribution towards the conservation, promotion and dissemination of the culture of this northernmost region of Angola.

The ceremony, held at the municipal headquarters of Cacongo, was part of the commemorative activities of National Culture Day, marked on January 8th, which took place within the scope of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be celebrated on the 11th of November this year.

Cultural agents linked to the visual arts, dance, literature, gastronomy, theatre, cinema, fashion and traditional therapy, were honoured with the delivery of certificates and diplomas of merit, in an event that was attended by the governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu.

In her speech, the governor highlighted the important role played by art makers in valuing and promoting local culture.

“There are no people without culture. We recognize your arduous but honourable mission of promoting and disseminating the good habits and customs of our region”, she said.

Suzana de Abreu also spoke of the need to continue teaching national (vernacular) languages, especially to children, since this establishes the identity of a people.
