Africa-Press – Angola. The Caluquembe fair, held from the 25th to the 27th of the current month as part of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the town’s elevation to municipal status, generated over 40 million kwanzas in revenue (USD 1 = Akz 912).
The trade event, which brought together 170 exhibitors, focused primarily on agricultural production, with an emphasis on cereals, tubers, and vegetables, as well as agricultural equipment, seen as drivers of modernization and development in the agricultural sector.
In a statement, to review the event, the municipal director for Economic and Integrated Development, António Olímpio, reported that coffee, sweet potatoes, and potatoes were among the most sought-after products.
He added that the restaurant services also brought greater visibility to the region’s potential.
According to the official, the fair featured local and regional exhibitors, including cooperatives, individual producers, and service providers.
As part of the celebrations of Caluquembe’s 60th anniversary as a town, to be celebrated on Sept 30th, the Expo reinforced the importance of local agricultural production in the process of economic diversification.
He noted that over 5 thousand visitors attended the fair.
The municipality of Caluquembe, classified as Type B, is located 193 km north of Lubango, in the province of Huíla, covering an area of 3,391 km2 and with an estimated population of 243,788 inhabitants, spreaded out among the municipalities of Caluquembe (headquarters), Ngola, and Calepi.
