Africa-Press – Angola. The Candidate for President of the Order of Veterinary Doctors of Angola (OMVA), on list A, Carla Fernandes, promises to improve equity and quality in the specialized training of members, as well as guarantee protection and confidence in the exercise of duties, if she wins the elections that take place on the 16th of the current month for the three-year period 2024-2026.
Speaking in Lubango, as part of her visit to the Southern Regional Council of the aforementioned Order, with a view to presenting her program, the doctor stated that they intend to publish updated information annually about the members trained and registered in the organization.
He highlighted the need to restore communication between members of the organization, in order to ensure greater rapprochement, as in recent years there has been some separation between the institution and its members.
Proof of the situation, Carla Fernandes pointed out that OMVA has 480 registered members, only 120 are active, which makes any administrative act and activity procedure unfeasible, which is why they intend to rescue them, promoting better communication so that each person can review themselves within the organization.
He stated that currently 70 percent of the provincial directors of veterinary services are doctors in the sector, but they need more, so there is a need to advocate that at municipal level there are also veterinarians in public and private support services.
He mentioned that they also intend to create synergies with the provincial governments to implement the South and Central regional headquarters of OMVA, which do not yet exist, in order to add value and dignity to the professional, promoting unity and exchange of experience between members.
“We noticed that there is some lack of knowledge on the part of the members of the OMVA statute, which reflects little legitimacy of the medical-veterinary activity. It is common to see documents signed by fake doctors, people without membership in the Order, which tarnishes the professional’s image. We will monitor more and hold offenders accountable,” he said.
Faced with this reality, Carla Fernandes reinforced that communicating implies giving all professionals access to the documentation that legitimizes the activity, from the statute, regulations, among other diplomas, as they will only be stronger if they are within the OMVA and rely on it to pass on to the next generation.
It has become a list of changes and comes to unite all the doctors in the country who have already graduated and practice the profession and those who have recently graduated, which is why they also intend to work with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Huambo, the only one in the country, for direct placement of staff. in the organization immediately after training.
Carla Fernandes has been a veterinarian since 2001 and joined OMVA in 2007. She has served as president of the Northern Regional Council and was a member of the organization’s board of directors for the 2022 term.
He is also a teacher and competes with Sílvio Alvarenga, candidate on list B. This is the first time in the 20 years of OMVA that there have been elections with two lists and two candidates, it has always been a single list.
The elections take place on the 16th of the current month and are for the three-year period 2024-2026.
