Africa-Press – Angola. Winger Carlos Morais manifested himself as being wronged by his absence from the National Basketball Team, opting Petro de Luanda as a priority, with whom he has another year on his contract.
“I feel wronged in some way, but I will continue to work at my club, maybe in the future I can return to the National Team”, he said, alluding to the fact that he was not chosen by coach Pep Clarós, aiming for the 25-year-old World Cup from August to September 10 in the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan.
Speaking last Sunday to the press, during a gala of his club “tricolores de ouro`2023”, held in Luanda, he said he did not know the reason for his absence, attributing full responsibility to the criteria of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB).
In the various interviews given to the press and pronouncements on his digital platforms, Carlos Morais describes with reservations his relationship with the FAB board and with the Spanish coach.
As an example, he said that as leader of the national team, Pep Clarós never spoke to him, also regretting the fact that he wants to have a salute in his particular case, without understanding why.
The athlete “demands”, therefore, more respect due to his contribution over the years at the service of the national teams, in a “soap opera” that overflowed to social networks, with pronouncements from figures in his favor, such as the former footballer Akwá .
The experienced player has not been part of the National Team since Afrobasket 2021, played in Rwanda.
In November 2021, Morais requested that he not be called up for the first qualifying window for the Asia event.
In the following windows that took place in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) and Luanda (Angola), the latter in February, Morais was not among those pre-summoned.
According to the national coach, the winger has not been among those elected due to constant manifestations of unavailability, claiming injury, not confirmed by the selection’s medical team, and personal issues.
Afterwards, the president of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), Moniz Silva, stated that the athlete’s absence is merely a technical forum and that it is up to the national coach Pep Clarós to summon whoever, in his view, meets the requirements.
