Africa-Press – Angola. The Luanda Provincial Carnival Association (APROCAL) appreciates the possibility of changing the promotion and demotion formats for classes A and B of the Luanda carnival, said Wednesday, its president, Victor Nataniel Narciso “Tani Narciso ”.
Currently, the promotion criterion is based on the promotion of the top five classified in each class. The relegation criteria covers the last five classified.
Tani Narciso was speaking to the press at the end of the ceremony to announce the results of the 2024 edition of the Luanda carnival, held at Nova Marginal from the 10th to the 13th of this month, with the last day dedicated to parades in the municipalities.
Without providing much information, the person in charge informed that, in the coming days, the carnival committee will meet with the groups to decide on the number of groups that will move up or down in class, depending on their performance.
“The regulations also provide for the non-demotion or promotion of carnival groups”, explained the president of APROCAL, for whom the meeting will produce some changes, taking into account the experience acquired over the years.
Tani Narciso also spoke about the penalization of three children’s carnival groups, namely União Jovens da Cacimba, Cassules do Twafundumuka and Cassules Sagrada Esperança, who lost 20 points due to the delay in the parade.
Grupo União Recreativo Kilamba, from the Rangel district, won class A of the Luanda Carnival, 2024 edition, with 896 points.
In second place was Grupo União Mundo da Ilha, with 864 points, and in third was União Kiela, with 790 points.
In this 46th edition of the Luanda carnival, the first classified in class A will receive the prize worth 15 million Kwanzas, as opposed to 5 million in 2023. The second placed winner will receive the amount of 10 million Kwanzas, while the third, five million.
