Africa-Press – Angola. The current state of cooperation between Angola and Egypt, especially in the parliamentary field, dominated, this Tuesday (18), in Luanda, the meeting between the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and the ambassador of that African country that links the Northeast Africa to the Middle East, Mohamed Ramadan Atta.
“We have many issues in common at the parliamentary level and opportunities to cooperate at the bilateral and continental levels,” said the Egyptian diplomat to the press, after the meeting with the parliamentary leader, whom he took the opportunity to salute for the election to the new post.
Mohamed Ramadan Atta stressed that the election of Carolina Cerqueira represents a victory for democracy in Angola and on the African continent, stressing that the new leader of the Angolan Parliament has always been “the great support” for the success of cooperation between the two States.
He announced the launch, next week, of a digital platform aimed at deepening friendship and cooperation between different institutions in the two countries.
“We have excellent relations between our institutions, which further facilitates bilateral cooperation,” said the Egyptian diplomat.
The Egyptian ambassador said, by the way, that bilateral trade this year amounted to US$3 billion, against US$600 million until the end of 2019, when he began diplomatic functions in the country.
In the future, he defended the increase in cooperation relations between the two countries, not only in terms of commercial exchange, but also in other areas.
On the occasion, he recalled that an Angolan business delegation visited the Republic of Egypt last March to promote Angolan coffee, and in response, three months later, Egyptian businessmen arrived in Angola to explore opportunities.
Composition of working committees
Tomorrow, the National Assembly will define the name and composition of its specialized working committees.
The information was released yesterday to the press by the first secretary of the board of the National Assembly, Manuel Lopes Dembo, at the end of the Conference of Parliamentary Leaders, guided by the president of the hemicycle, Carolina Cerqueira.
The draft resolution on the subject will be discussed and voted on by the deputies during the 1st Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly.
In the previous Legislature, the National Assembly had 10 specialized working committees.
The first commission was for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, the 2nd for National Security, the 3rd for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Abroad, the 4th for Local Government Administration and the 5th for Economy and Finance.
The remaining committees were Education, Culture, Religious Affairs and Social Communication (6th), Health, Family, Youth and Sports, Former Combatants and Social Action (7th), Environment, Science and Technology, Labor and Social Security (8th), Mandates, Parliamentary Ethics and Decorum (9th) and Human Rights, Petitions, Complaints and Citizens’ Suggestions (10th).
The plenary will also proceed with the movement of deputies, as well as the discussion and vote on the Draft Resolution for the Constitution of the Board of Directors of the National Assembly.
The agenda of the first Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the AN also includes the discussion and voting of the Draft Resolutions for the composition of the Board of the Group of Women Parliamentarians, as well as the composition of the Permanent Commission of the AN.
Of the 220 deputies in the Angolan Parliament, 124 are from the MPLA and 90 from UNITA, while the PRS, the FNLA and the PHA each have two parliamentarians, elected in the 24 August elections.
The PRS, the FNLA and the PHA do not form parliamentary groups, as they did not obtain a minimum of three deputies in the general elections. Thus, its deputies are considered only representatives of its political forces in the “house of laws”.
