The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted, Monday (24), the role of parliaments in strengthening democracy and the Democratic State and Law, during the opening session of the XI Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), which runs until today, in Lisbon, under the motto “free circulation of goods and services”.
In brief statements to the press, Carolina Cerqueira underlined the importance of the event in the various domains, and highlighted the commitment of the organization’s member countries to strengthen cooperation ties for the development of nations.
On the first day of work, separate meetings of different commissions were held, covering topics such as Politics, Legislation, Citizenship, Circulation, Economy, Environment, Cooperation, Education, Science and Culture. There were also meetings of the Network of Women Parliamentarians and Young Parliamentarians.
For today, in the morning, a plenary session is scheduled to be held, in which the presidents of the parliaments of the countries of the organization will intervene, at which time Carolina Cerqueira should speak about the free circulation of goods and services within the CPLP space, a proposed theme. for this meeting.
In the afternoon, a debate is scheduled on the electoral processes in the CPLP member states, after which the final document will be approved and the closing session of the XI Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) will be held.
Marked by the speech of the President of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, the opening session was attended by the leaders of the parliaments of the CPLP nations, heads of delegation and ambassadors of the countries of the organization accredited in Portugal. At the end of the morning, Carolina Cerqueira had a meeting of about 20 minutes with her Portuguese counterpart.
