Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly​ (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, was elected,​ this Tuesday, in Geneva (Switzerland)​, member of the Preparatory Committee of the 6th World Conference of Women ​Presidents of Parliaments to take place between July​ to August 2025.

The decision came from a meeting of the Executive Committee that approved the proposals of the regional groups of the Interparlamenter Union (UIP), which took place in Geneva (Switzerland), on the sidelines of the organization’s 148th General Assembly.

The Committee is chaired by the president of the IPU and also leader of the Tanzanian parliament, Tulia Acson.

A representative of the UIP Women’s Committee and a representative of the Youth Forum are part of the Committee.

At the African level, representatives from Angola, Algeria, Côte D ́Ivoire and Nigeria were elected, who are represented by the presidents of their Parliaments.

Globally, there is an increasing number of women taking on the leadership of their countries’ parliaments.

Carolina Cerqueira is the first woman to assume the presidency of the National Assembly of Angola, having been elected in September 2022.

The summit is a space for sharing experiences among women leaders from around the world and analyzing advances and challenges to strengthening equity, participation and opportunities for women globally.

Also called Women Political Leaders (WPL) is a global network of women political leaders at an international level, including the European Parliament, which currently has around nine thousand members.
