Africa-Press – Angola. A recital called the Angolan Poetry Festival, with the presence of renowned poets, who will recite some poems of their own, as an incentive for the younger ones, takes place today, at 18:00, at Associação Cultural e Recreativa Chá de Caxinde, in Luanda, to celebrate the 21st of March, World Poetry Day, as usual.

Under the coordination of the poet José Luís Mendonça, the activity, in which the coordinator himself, Bushido Mo, Barros Neto, Cristóvão Neto, Irene Amosi, Fátima Fernandes, Nguimba Ngola, Beto Neto and Gino Sacramento, from the Lev’arte group, Kardo Bestilo and Ismael Farinha, will be marked by a brief debate on the importance and role of literary criticism.

The program of the Angolan Poetry Festival for World Poetry Day, edition 2022, includes moments of trova by Maweze and Bona Ska, the poetry bonfire with Bushido Mo, Cristóvão Neto, Irene Amosi and Nguimba Ngola, and the roundtable on “Criticism of Poetry in Angola: necessity and effectiveness”, moderated by Fátima Fernandes.

World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on March 21. The date was created at the 30th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on November 16, 1999.

World Poetry Day celebrates the diversity of dialogue, the free creation of ideas through words, creativity and innovation. The date aims to reflect on the power of language and the development of each person’s skills. This is because poetry contributes to creative diversity, inferring our perception and understanding of the world.
