Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to Brazil inaugurated the photographic exhibition “Neto na Primeira Pessoa” at the University of Brasília, as part of the local program to commemorate the Centenary of Agostinho Neto’s birth.
In the presence of diplomats accredited in Brazil, university students and Angolans residing in Brasília, Florêncio de Almeida highlighted the preponderant role of Agostinho Neto in the conquest of national independence, the valuable contribution to the affirmation of African nations, as well as his relevant literary vein.
Also during Tuesday’s activity, which also served to mark the 60th anniversary of the University of Brasília, professor Débora Santos, representing the institution of higher education, highlighted the blood and cultural ties that unite the peoples of Angola and the Brazil, as well as the figure of Agostinho Neto in building the foundations of friendship between the two nations.
The Centenary included the screening of the documentary “Cem Anos de Neto”, it also hosted a lecture on “The Life and Work of the First President of Angola”, whose lecturer Abreu Paxe highlighted the literary dimension of Agostinho Neto, considering that the work will last for the entire forever in the history of mankind.
For the also writer and university professor, due to his vast work, Neto is decidedly and definitely one of the greatest literary references on the African continent and beyond.
The highly attended ceremony also featured the performance of the poet Moisés and the musician Paulo Matumina, who, on the occasion, through poetry and prose, revived poems by Agostinho Neto.
