Africa-Press – Angola. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Angola (CCIA) was recently decorated with the Official Medal of the Order of Leopold, awarded by the King of Belgium, Philippe LeĢopold Louis Marie, in recognition of the work that has been done in strengthening of business cooperation between the two countries.
After receiving the respective decoration, the president of the CCIA, Vicente Soares, considered this distinction extremely important, as it reinforces the motivation of the chamber’s work team, which has the mission of increasingly strengthening bilateral business relations.
Specifically, the leader of Angola’s industrial and commercial class pointed to the facilitation of various interactive meetings between Angolan and Belgian businessmen as one of the actions that stood out in the attribution of the aforementioned decoration.
Speaking to the press, regarding the distinction, Vicente Soares referred that, as a result of the work carried out by the different chambers of commerce and government entities, the country already has at least 20 Belgian companies, which operate in various sectors, with emphasis on mining, construction, industry, trade and consultancy.
Without quantifying the volume of investment by Belgian businessmen in Angola, the president of the CCIA also underlined that there are interests of Angolan businessmen to invest in Belgium, mainly in the installation of infrastructures for the commercialization of diamonds.
Therefore, he assured that the chamber will continue to work towards a healthy and mutually advantageous business environment in all sectors of the economy, with the private sector being called upon to play its role.
Political, diplomatic and cooperation relations between Angola and Belgium date back to 1979 and were formalized in 1983, with the signing of the Economic, Technical, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation Agreement.
Both countries share different economic interests, especially in the diamond sector, one of the most important areas in the framework of economic cooperation.
