Africa-Press – Angola. The Mauritanian football team qualified Tuesday for the quarter-finals of CHAN ́2023, which takes place in Algeria, by beating the similar team from Mali, by 1-0, in a game of 3rd round of Group D.
The lone goal of the match, played at Miloud Hadefi Stadium, was scored by Mamadou Sy, in the 53rd minute.
With this result, the Mauritanian team totals four (4) points, in the lead of the series, followed by Angola (2) and Mali (1). This group had only three teams and only the first placed goes to the other phase.
The Palancas Negras, designation of the Angolan team, with two points, tied with Mali (3-3) and Mauritania (0-0), and are out of the competition.
The first phase, which ends on Tuesday, also includes the meeting between Niger and Cameroon, for group E. The Congolese team is off due to calendar reasons.
The Cameroonians lead the pairing with three points, two more than the Nigerians and Congolese, in the immediate positions.
Algeria and Mozambique (group A), Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire (B), Madagascar and Ghana (C) have already qualified for the quarter-finals.
The first edition of this event, remember, took place in 2009, in Côte d’Ivore. Morocco, absent in this 2023 edition, is the holder of the title.
