Africa-Press – Angola. The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) continues to be a vital mechanism for the search for a solution to conflicts and guaranteeing stability and development in the sub-region, said this Thursday, in Luanda, the Minister of Foreign Affairs .

Téte António, who was speaking today at the opening of the Ordinary Meeting of the Regional Interministerial Committee (CRIM) of the CIRGL, considered that this Committee plays a fundamental role in the process of decision-making and implementation of the Pact, as well as the strengthening of the Organization.

Angola, he reiterated, has also been following with great concern the attacks carried out by terrorist groups in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in other countries in our sub-region.

For the head of Angolan diplomacy, the proliferation of terrorist groups highlights the need to strengthen regional mechanisms of cooperation and coordination, in the political, security, defense and intelligence spheres, with the aim of anticipating threats and preventing risks in sub-Saharan Africa. -region, effectively and efficiently.

Today’s meeting will analyze the peace and security situation in the Member States and in the sub-region, adopt the necessary measures to adequately face the current challenges, as well as approve the recommendations of the meetings held by the various Ministerial Committees, including that of the National Coordinators.
