Africa-Press – Angola. The reinforcement of Africa’s democratic process, through permanent dialogue, respect for the law and periodic holding of free and transparent elections, was pointed out Thursday, as the main factor for preventing the armed conflicts that devastate the continent.
This position was defended by citizens interviewed regarding Africa Day, which is celebrated yesterday, stressing that the continent’s affirmation in the concert of nations and consequent promotion of its economic, social and political development, depends on the observance of constitutional principles.
According to Mohamed Abdallah, a Mauritanian citizen residing in Malanje, disrespect for the aforementioned assumptions has given rise to conflicts and coups d’état, leaving the continent “stagnant” and causing a population exodus.
The same opinion is shared by the Senegalese citizen Mamadou Hassimiou Diallo, who also defended the need for contact between the leaders and the population, promoting an ever closer governance that responds to the problems that affect the citizens.
In turn, the Angolan writer Kibuku Kiajinge was also in favor of promoting dialogue in favor of African unity, in order to avoid the “fragmentation” that is witnessed in some parts of the continent.
On the other hand, he pointed to the adoption of education systems adjusted to the potential of each country, in order to take better advantage of existing resources, stimulate industry and generate more jobs and wealth for the cradle continent.
The Mauritanian trader Mustafa Didi called for the appreciation of African cultural identity and the reinforcement of investment in the education sector, in order to put an end to the tendency of citizens to flee to other continents.
The African continent marks 60 years since the creation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU).
