Africa-Press – Angola. The film “Coda” was elected the best film of the 94th edition of the Oscars, the highest awards given by the Hollywood Film Academy, whose gala took place on Sunday in Los Angeles, USA.

New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion won the Oscar for best director for “The Power of the Dog”, a Netflix production, which was nominated for 12 categories of the contest, but only won one.

“Dune” won the Oscars for best cinematography, special effects, sound, original score, editing and art direction. The film directed by Denis Villeneuve thus won six Oscars, out of the ten for which it had been nominated.

The Oscars for best actors went to Will Smith, for the performance in the film “King Richard – Raising Champions”, and Jessica Chastain, for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”, while the distinctions for best supporting actors went to Ariana DeBose, for the performance in “West Side Story”, and Troy Kotsur, for their performance in “Coda”.

“Drive my Car”, the representative of Japan for this edition received the Oscar for best international film.

The Oscars for best original screenplay and adapted screenplay were, respectively, for Kenneth Branagh, for “Belfast”, and Sian Heder, for “Coda”.
