Africa-Press – Angola. The National Archive of Angola (ANA) is restoring services with the capture, absorption and awareness of the community for the collection of information produced in the post-independence period.

In this restoration process, the institution is digitizing the documentary collection with a view to facilitating the accessibility of researchers and enriching the collection.

The director general of ANA, Constância Ceita, explained that the programs are being carried out at different times.

In order to develop the capture, absorption and awareness project, which is still in the design phase, according to the official, an awareness campaign will be carried out, scheduled for August 2023, where it is expected to collect the documentation dispersed in national and international institutions. , public and private.

“We intend to collect from consular institutions, embassies, representations, the diplomatic corps and from parishes around the world the existing documents in these places, and the first stage will consist of the organization and systematization of the collection,” he said.

Alongside these actions, according to Constância Ceita, there is a training plan for technicians, a process that has already been developed but which is intended to be improved with the creation of agreements between public and private research institutions to improve access for researchers.

The official said that scientific research tourism has been one of the registered occurrences, with the presence of American, Brazilian and English tourists interested in works linked to the resistance of the peoples of ancient Ndongo, having highlighted the works on Njinga Mbandi, written by an Englishwoman .

Parallel to the activity, a room was inaugurated with five thousand books cataloged and authenticated by Angolan technicians, open to the public.

The reading room called Arlindo Barbeitos, where history books, novels, academics and others were donated by sociologist and professor at the Agostinho Neto University, Arlindo Barbeitos.
