Africa-Press – Angola. Residents of Lobito, in Benguela province, contributed this Friday with suggestions for the launch of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption (ENAPREC).
Organized by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE) and Justice and Human Rights, ENAPREC is an instrument that will serve as a basis for justice bodies to mitigate corruption over the next five years. .
Citizens applaud and encourage the presidential initiative to combat corruption, as it is an evil that harms society.
They suggest greater speed in the judgment of processes and exemplary accountability of the corrupt, at all levels.
According to the Acting Public Prosecutor of Benguela Province, Aryclenes Domingos, the entire population, within the framework of participatory democracy, should contribute to enabling a strategy that fits the country’s reality.
According to him, at provincial level, the public consultation started in Benguela, on April 20, and will extend to other municipalities.
Asked about corruption cases in the province, he said, without quantifying, that there are many, of which several public managers have already been convicted, others are awaiting trial, while others have their cases in preparatory instruction.
“In the coming months we will have judgments on those processes that have already been introduced in the courts,” he informed
In his opening speech, the municipal administrator of Lobito, Evaristo Calopa Mário, considered the topic of high relevance and topicality, since “corruption is a phenomenon that prevents and disturbs the national political, economic and social development and blocks the correct functioning of of the institutions, there being, therefore, enough reasons for the adoption of energetic measures for its wide combat”.
In his opinion, among the various evils it causes, it affects the well-being of individuals, families and communities, thus harming hundreds of millions of citizens, by undermining their opportunities for a stable and prosperous future.
“The National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption, consists of reducing this phenomenon, through the promotion of integrity, transparency and improvement in the provision of services in the public and private sectors, as well as the involvement of citizens in the transparency of the management of public affairs. ”, he emphasized.
The consultation process on the National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption began on April 18 and will end on May 18, 2023.
In addition to representatives of justice bodies, general officers, company administrators, members of the consultation council, traditional and religious authorities were present at the event.
