Africa-Press – Angola. The “Complete Poetic Work” by Agostinho Neto, a collection of classic poems from the books Sagrada Esperança, Renunciation Impossível and Amanhecer, was presented this Monday in Sumbe (Cuanza Sul), in an initiative of the Brigada Jovem de Literatura from Angola.
With 171 pages and more than 50 poems, the book was officially launched on September 17, 2022, by the Agostinho Neto Foundation, as part of the commemorations of the centenary of its patron and initiatives to immortalize his achievements.
With 1,000 copies available to readers in Cuanza Sul, the book is being sold at a price of 3,500 kwanzas.
When presenting the work, university professor Mendes Lopes referred that the book constitutes a set of poems by Agostinho Neto that gave color to the process of struggle for the self-determination of African peoples, combating obscurantism, mobilizing desires and armies revolting against the bonds of colonization.
“The poetry of Agostinho Neto does not end here. Therefore, the new generation must read his books and follow his teachings,” he added.
He informed that, to allow greater dissemination, the work was translated into the national languages Kikongo, Umbundu, Kimbundu and Cockwe, as well as into English, French, Mandarin, Spanish, Indian and Korean.
The act was attended by members of the Government and the Youth Literature Brigade of Angola, university professors, students, representatives of youth organizations, among other guests.
