Africa-Press – Angola. The only three books of poetry by José Saramago will be part of the volume “Poesia completo”, an edition of Assírio & Alvim that is already on pre-sale, although it will only arrive at bookstores on the 20th.
José Saramago made his debut in poetry in 1966, the year he turned 44, with the publication of “Possible poems”.
In 1970, he published his second book called “Probável Alegria”, as a follow-up to the first work, this issue being explained in the prologue: “Developing and debugging the treatment of themes that already came from ‘Possible Poems’, the guidelines are opened novelties that bring it closer to the prose poem”.
Finally, in a very brief passage through poetry, a year after the 25th of April (1975), he launches “O ano de 1993”, which has 30 poems that describe the dictatorial regime in both a realistic and metaphorical way.
“Poesia Completa” thus brings together these three books, not so well known of Saramago’s work, and also offers the reader an unpublished text to discover. where you can also buy it in bookstores.
Literary critic Fernando JB Martinho, in the afterword to the work, leaves a short review: “One can say of his poetry what Sena said of that of Gedeão, another name of late poetic revelation, when in it he marked the confluence of many of the expressive achievements of the modernism”.
