Concession of the multipurpose terminal at Porto do Lobito will bring significant gains

Africa-Press – Angola. With the concession of the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Lobito in favor of África Global Logistics, the Angolan State will receive significant benefits, said this Monday, a senior official from the Ministry of Transport.

Pedro Maza, who was speaking at the closing of the terminal concession contract signing ceremony, representing Minister Ricardo D’Abreu, said that the Government, through the Ministry of Transport, made the best choice among the competitors for this project.

“Future perspectives, whether immediate or in the medium term, will make the Port of Lobito operate with a high level of efficiency, using the most modern technology used in global port activity”, he considered.

Pedro Maza recalled the payment to the Angolan State, worth more than 150 million dollars, of which 80 million are paid with the formalization of the concession contract.

He also referred to the “execution of an ambitious investment plan worth 100 million dollars, to be carried out over the 20 years of operation of the terminal”.

That director also mentioned the importance of maintaining the jobs of professionals assigned to the terminal and the implementation of a training plan with a view to training them, as well as the insertion of mid-level and higher-level staff in the different concessionaires and in decision-making structures, as provided for in current legislation on private investment in Angola.

“These gains that we have just listed must enhance and contribute to the good performance of the functions that each of us can perform”, he stated.

According to him, from today onwards, Porto do Lobito will have professional management governed and guided by the sector’s greatest international practices, capable of transforming the Port into one of the best and most efficient in Southern Africa.
