Africa-Press – Angola. The consul general in New York, Augusta Mangueira Bessa, witnessed the hoisting of the flag of the Republic of Angola, in Brockton, Massachusetts, on the occasion of the 14th of April, the day dedicated to the Angolan State.

The official act was witnessed by the mayor of Brockton, Robert F. Sulivan, in addition to the president of the Balumuka Association, Delano Kiam, the NBA star Bruno Fernando, members of the local government and the Angolan community based in Massachusetts.

The consul general said on Saturday that the raising of the flag not only represents the independence of Angola but also the liberation from the colonial yoke, communion between brothers and, above all, national reconciliation.

In turn, the mayor of Brockton, Robert F. Sulivan, emphasized the importance of the Angolan community in enhancing and strengthening the idiosyncrasy of that region, through the most diverse social and community groups present in the city.

Basketball player Bruno Fernando, quoted yesterday by the Press Services of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in the United States of America, in Washington DC, thanked the invitation and said that unity is the key to the success of a nation.

The flag was hoisted by the consul general, Augusta Mangueira Bessa, the basketball player Bruno Fernando and the pastor Nice Moalis. Then there was the recreational activity, with the demonstration of Angolan culture, exhibition of handicrafts, music and typical dishes.
