Council of Churches Marks 50 Years of Gospel Growth

Africa-Press – Angola. The representative of the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA) in the southern Cunene Province, João Gimbi, on Tuesday highlighted the growth and expansion of the gospel in communities, considering it a milestone in the 50 years of National Independence.

The official who was speaking on the occasion of November 11th, stated that since the achievement of Independence in 1975 and national peace and reconciliation in 2002, the evangelical presence has grown significantly, with established churches throughout the national territory.

He said that freedom and peace allowed the free movement of people and goods, as well as the activity of various religious denominations and the moral upliftment of families who lived through more than 400 years of colonization and 27 years of civil war.

In his view, during the five decades of Independence, a growing presence was observed in all provinces, often accompanied by the promotion of social and educational activities.

He explained that previously, the message of the gospel in the communities was limited due to the political context, and some leaders at the time risked their lives to preach the word of God but suffered attacks.

“The churchers have expanded their activities to include literacy, education, social assistance, and health programs, contributing to community development”, he emphasized.

João Gimbi stressed that the church, as a strategic partner, maintains a strong collaborative relationship with the Angolan government, actively participating in initiatives aimed at the social and economic development of the country.

He informed that CICA in Cunene controls 14 religious denominations, most of which are based in the city of Ondjiva.
