Council recommends raising awareness of families about sexual abuse of children

Africa-Press – Angola. Reinforcement of actions to raise awareness and moralize families, around the issue of sexual abuse of minors, pregnancy and early marriage, by municipal administrations was recommended Monday, at the 24th session of the National Family Council.

According to the participants of the meeting, which took place in the city, the idea is to discourage such practices that are still visible in society and disrupt the family fabric.

They highlighted the need to work on removing other factors that contribute to family breakdown, such as avoiding fatherhood, a practice that has become frequent in society.

They recalled that the rescue of moral, civic, ethical, cultural and patriotic values is everyone’s responsibility and must be preserved through open, frank, harmonious dialogue, placing the family at the center of attention.

The council recommended that municipal administrations encourage the participation of communities, especially women, the elderly, traditional authorities, in the mediation, prevention and management of conflicts related to family inheritance, land tenure and paternity protection.

The event suggested that, through local administrations, families be encouraged to opt for the recognition of the De facto Union, in the absence of civil marriage, in order to protect the children, in the event of the death of one of the spouses.

Participants asked the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion to reinforce synergies to strengthen the necessary premises for improving actions in communities, as well as the Justice Reform Commission to accelerate the process of revising the Family Code and consultation public.

The event also suggested that the supervising ministry, in conjunction with that of Education, work on revitalizing the commissions of parents and guardians, in order to be aligned with the strengthening of the family-community-school relationship.

They defended the reinforcement of environmental reforestation strategies, through awareness campaigns in the communities for the creation of nurseries and later the planting of trees, as well as actions to empower municipal administrations and social partners in the promotion of hygiene, sanitation and sustainable management of the resources.

The 24th Session of the National Family Council took place under the motto: “Family Strengthened, Society Developed” and discussed topics such as family education from a gender and cultural perspective, the role of the family in protecting the environment, the status of the Code of Family, among others.
