Africa-Press – Angola. Between 2015 and 2025, the country recorded a significant reduction in its annual consumption of fossil fuels, from 1,364 million to the current 430 million litres per year, which corresponds to a decrease of over 930 million litres. The data was released by the management of the Public Electricity Production Company (PRODEL), which considers it to be “a notable advance” in the country’s energy transition, driven by the Government’s strategic investments in clean and renewable energy sources, with a special focus on strengthening the National Electricity System. The expansion of renewable generation capacity has included high-impact initiatives, such as the start of operations of the Cambambe Power Plant (2016), the Laúca and Tchiumbwe-Dala Hydroelectric Projects (2017), the interconnection of the Northern and Central Systems (2019), and the implementation of new solar plants in several provinces of the country.
Currently, Angola has 73 plants in operation, with 91 percent of the energy consumed coming from renewable sources. This progress strengthens national energy security and reduces dependence on fossil fuels.
