Africa-Press – Angola. The Lubango District Court resumes, this Wednesday (8), the trial of Miss-Huíla/2018, Beatriz Alves, eight months after the first session was suspended, due to the defendant’s health condition.
The first trial session took place behind closed doors, at the request of Beatriz’s defense, in September 2023, but was suspended due to the subject’s state of fresh birth.
The case dates back to 2021, but the trial began in November 2022. Two defendants were sentenced to 13 years, one is on the run and Miss, at the time, was exonerated from the procedural investigation phase and considered a declarant, but the trial a defendant was constituted and a new case was opened.
The judge in the case, at the time, Marcelino Ntyamba, ordered the opening of a new investigation against Beatriz, based on the testimonies of those convicted, in the evidence production phase, who denounced her for her alleged involvement in the case, associated with the contradictions of the target. at trial.
Beatriz Alves is accused of kidnapping and qualified robbery, of which her boyfriend, Cristiano do Porto, was a victim, while João Hélder, a member of the Prison Services, is another new defendant included in the case, weighing on him the crimes of abuse of power and obstruction of justice.
In total, the case involved António Fernandes, Gerson Ramos and Osvaldo Benedito, sentenced to 13 years in prison, for having orchestrated armed robberies in the communes of Huíla and Arimba (Lubango), of which 27 people were victims, since March 2021.
Since the first half of September, António Francisco and Gerson Guerreiro Ramos were released, in response to the appeal filed by the defense, which resulted in the application of habeas corpus , resulting from the excessive preventive detention in which they were placed and the delay in the response from the Court of Appeal.
