Africa-Press – Angola. Minerals considered critical or rare such as chromium, cobalt, copper, graphite and iron ore represent great business opportunities for the country, as they have enormous mining potential, said engineer Mankenda Ambroise yesterday.
In addition to those minerals, Mankenda Ambroise also listed lead, lithium, manganese, eneodymium, praseodymium, nickel and silver.
Speaking at the opening of the second edition of the forum and exhibition – “O Negocio Mineiro”, as advisor to the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, he underlined that Angola, in particular, and Africa, in general, is potentially rich in critical minerals and that this reality constitutes a good basis for the development of concrete mining projects.
In his view, this fact can attract and mobilize private investment in critical mineral projects, aiming, among other objectives, to boost the diversification of mining production and the creation of jobs, mainly for young people.
“It is crucial that Angola, in particular, and the African continent, in general, make significant efforts to radically transform their mining project portfolios in order to take full advantage of the business opportunities that critical minerals and the energy transition offer”, he said. pointed out the engineer.
To this end, he said, there is a need to adjust its mining development strategies to meet the specificities and characteristics of mining, with emphasis on critical minerals.
He referred that the world talks about minerals for “Energy Transition” and that Angola is one of the countries where there is a geological environment conducive to promoting and developing projects of this type of minerals that will allow meeting future demands.
“The country has significant deposits of critical minerals and, currently, 36 of the 51 minerals considered most critical worldwide are known in Angola, some of which are about to go into production”, highlighted the minister’s advisor.
On the other hand, he considered that the 2nd edition of this forum could constitute a platform that will provide wide, interesting and growing debate, both in Angola, in particular, and in the African continent, in general.
The forum’s target audience is authorities, associations and companies, which will have the opportunity to reflect on the possibilities of identifying businesses that the mining transition can provide, through the exhibition of products to be made by more than a dozen companies, presenting the its perspectives and support to the mining sector.
The two-day event will discuss issues related to fair energy transfer for the implementation of appropriate energy security measures, taking into account the expansion of new energy sources, such as renewable energies.
