Cruise ship docks in Luanda with 767 tourists

Africa-Press – Angola. A cruise ship of North American origin, called “Serenade Of The Seas”, docked, Sunday, at the Port of Luanda, with 767 tourists of various nationalities, for a period of 10 hours.

These are tourists of Belgian, Norwegian, Swiss, North American and Portuguese nationalities, who, after Angola, will head to Ghana.

In Luanda, visitors will visit the Iron Palace, the Fortaleza de São Miguel, the churches of Remédios and Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, the Museum of Anthropology, the islands of Mussulo and Luanda, as well as the Monument of the Unknown Soldier.

According to the general director of “Travel Gest”, the company in charge of bringing cruise ships to the country, José Cabral, three more ships are expected to dock in Angola by the end of the year.

He said that the shipping seasons in Angola range from October to May or June, a period in which ships can circulate through national waters.

The source stressed that the docking of ships marks promotion or free marketing, and that Angola is increasingly following the cruise route.

Despite the difficulties, he said, tourism plays a key role in the development of the Angolan economy, as there is sufficient potential to leverage this industry and raise revenue.

This is the 50th cruise ship to call in Angola, since October 2012, as part of the promotion of national tourism.
