Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ), Norberto João, appealed this Thursday to the 23 newly appointed judges to combat improper conduct in the courts, particularly corruption involving judicial officials and magistrates.

The statement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of the presiding judges of the District Courts of Luanda, Viana, Cubal, Lobito, Dande, Cuito, Caála, Moxico, Buco Zau, Cabinda, Amboim, Cela, Cambambe, Cazengo, Soyo, Cuanhama, Bibala, Tômbwa, Caconda, Matala, Chitato and Menongue.On that occasion, Norberto João emphasized that there were signs of practices contrary to ethics and professional deontology within the courts. “We would like to see those taking office combating these behaviors,” he stated, adding that the appointment of the new officials marks an important moment for the judicial magistracy.

According to the president of the CSMJ (Superior Council of the Judiciary), a new stage is beginning, one that is intended to be different, based on responsibility, integrity, and leadership. He urged the magistrates to perform their duties with dedication and team spirit, reminding them that the president of the judicial district is the face of the judicial magistracy before society and local administrative and political authorities.

“They must demonstrate that they deserve the position, know how to manage and find solutions to the problems in their districts,” he reinforced, also warning against attitudes of vanity and authoritarianism.

He guaranteed that the judges’ performance will be monitored and that those who do not meet expectations may be replaced.Commitment to Speed ​​and Proximity

In turn, the presiding judge of the Bengo District Court, Vânia Silva, assured that she will fulfill her mandate with zeal and dedication, prioritizing the fight against corruption and the reduction of procedural delays.

The judge of the Benguela District Court, Catarina Micolo, also pointed to bringing justice closer to citizens as the main challenge, promising commitment to internal organization and the fight against illicit practices, focusing on reducing the slowness of processes.

The presiding judge of the Luanda District Court, Paulino Cândido, expressed confidence in the collaboration of the media, emphasizing that Luanda should serve as a model for the other district courts in the country.Among the priorities of his mandate, he highlighted the implementation of the guidelines of the president of the CSMJ, with special attention to the fight against corruption and the consolidation of the progress already achieved. “We want to transform Luanda and continue the positive developments initiated by my predecessors,” he stated.

The appointment of the 23 Presiding Judges of the District Courts took place during the 2nd Ordinary Plenary Session of the CSMJ, held on February 5th, which deliberated on the designation of the Judges of Law to perform their new functions.
