Culture mourns death of Galiano Neto

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Filipe Zau, informed, in a press release, that he became aware of and regrets the death, which occurred in Lisbon, due to illness, of the drummer, singer and songwriter Galiano Neto.

For the minister, as highlighted in the note, Galiano Neto is a reference in Angolan and African music, having participated in the group “Grito di Povo”, and as a composer, alongside Vate Costa and Gregório Mulato, of the group Os Merengues, one of the the largest post-Independence musical groups in the country.

The artist’s death, which took place on Friday, in Lisbon, where he had lived since the 1990s, represents a unique loss. In this hour of pain and sadness, the minister addresses the family bereaved, feelings of regret.

Galiano Neto became famous as the author of several successful songs, re-recorded by Banda Maravilha, such as “Lelu kiá”, “Sessa mulemba”, “Samba yó” and “Palame”, as well as the song “Makalakato ”, performed by Paulo Flores.

Throughout his career he also collaborated with groups Semba Masters, Kussondolola and participated in the recordings of Bonga’s latest album.
