Africa-Press – Angola. The southern province of Cunene will host, from the 20th to the 21st of the current month, the 11th meeting of the Consultative Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas (MIREMPT), which will, among other matters, evaluate the organization, functioning and performance of services and companies in the sector.
According to the program on Wednesday, the event was preceded by a methodological meeting, with the holding of a seminar to define the applicable technical terms in geological-mining activity.
The gathering, taking place in the city of Ondjiva, will be chaired by the incumbent minister, Diamantino Azevedo, and divided into sessions and roundtables, with informative, thematic and corporate vision panels.
In the informative panel, participants will be informed about the recommendations of the 11th methodological meeting and the 10th meeting of the Advisory Council, the balance of the mandate and the results of the evaluation of Angola’s second report.
Information on the country’s digital mining registry – shifting to a new reality and the mining potential of Angola, particularly Cunene and discussions on the evolution of updating the database of mineral occurrences are among the topics of the event.
The meeting also includes assessment on the technical services and laboratories available to support the minerals, oil and gas sector, diamond production versus the international geopolitical situation and mitigation measures.
Participants will also analyze the situation regarding the implementation of ongoing structuring mining projects, the evaluation and classification of mineral resources and reserves, and the importance of investor quality for the sector’s growth.
The council also plans to discuss adapting curricula to the sector’s needs, impacting smuggling in the fuel distribution system, as part of the corporate program.
The event to be held under the motto “Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas: From Potential to Strategic Development,” will also focus on the current state of onshore exploration and production, measures to mitigate the decline in production, oil exploration and production strategy, as well as the incorporation of mining activity.
The meeting expects to bring together state secretaries, national directors, heads of departments of central services, heads of management bodies of public companies and supervised services, managers and technicians from specialized areas.
