The natural resources available in the municipality of Cuvango, in the province of Huíla, from arable land, permanent rivers, forests and minerals require greater interest and investment, so that their use is reflected in the life of the communities, defended its administrator, Luís Marcelo.

The municipality has approximately 300 thousand hectares that can be deforested and explored. The Municipal Administration currently has a record of 65 to 70 thousand hectares of old farms that are underutilized.

Speaking this Monday at a meeting with farmers and traditional authorities, the administrator of Cuvango, highlighted that the municipality “increasingly feels” the need for greater exploitation of these resources, with a view to creating more employment opportunities and solving problems. of people, which will only be possible with new investments.

“Our municipality has natural potential, from arable soil, permanent rivers and a working population, crucial assumptions for achieving the desired sustainable progress, however, it is necessary to focus and better explore resources, so that we feel the return in our lives ”, he stressed.

Cuvango is “bathed” by more than 290 kilometers of the courses of the Cubango and Cutato rivers, crossing the main municipalities, Galangue and Vicungo. Over the last three years, an additional 15 thousand hectares have been granted to investors, but these lands are still not producing.

Currently two “large” projects stand out in the municipality, namely Agrikuvango, started in 2016, with grain production, installed on five thousand hectares, where around ten thousand tons are harvested annually, as well as Mumba (50 thousand hectares), which since 2015 has also produced cereals, but intended for vegetable protein for animals, as its focus is livestock.

Cuvango is 356 kilometers east of Lubango and has an estimated population of 103,262 inhabitants, who live mainly in agriculture and fishing.
