Deolinda Rodrigues Among the 100 most Influential Women in Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. Nationalist Deolinda Rodrigues was honored posthumously on Saturday as one of the 100 most influential women in Angola. The tribute was promoted by the magazine “O Telegrama”, during a gala held at a hotel in Luanda, which brought together prominent figures from the country’s political, social and business scene.

The award for the co-founder of the Angolan Women’s Organization was presented to her brother Roberto de Almeida, who, on the occasion, highlighted his sister’s qualities in the defense of Human Rights and in the fight for National Independence.

In addition to Deolinda Rodrigues, the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, was also distinguished, recognized for her impactful leadership in 2024 and her inspiring career trajectory, having dedicated the distinction “to all anonymous women, Angolan mothers and educators, who shape the future of children and youth, in the name of a more prosperous, peaceful and socially just Angola”.The list of winners also includes other prominent female figures in the national political scene, namely MPs Arlete Chimbinda, Ângela Bragança, Idalina Valente, Florbela Malaquias and Joana Tomás.

The vice-president of the MPLA, Mara Quiosa, is also among the honorees.

The second edition of the gala organized by the magazine “O Telegrama” had, for the first time, a jury composed of nine of the 100 women elected in the previous edition.

According to the jury, led by the president of the Board of Directors of Banco Keve, Elsa da Silva, the evaluation criteria involved aspects such as leadership, influence and social impact.

The jury also included Natacha Barradas, Patrícia Faria, Natacha Massano, Yara Mupei, Cristina Silvestre, Heymée Cogie and Kâmia Madeira, who together recognised women from various fields for their outstanding contributions to Angolan society.

The annual initiative aims to recognise the potential of Angolan women and their growing representation in the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government and in civil society.
