Africa-Press – Angola. The coordinator of the 6th Commission of the National Assembly, deputy Narciso Benedito, promised Thursday, in Luanda, to advocate for the approval of the next General State Budget (OGE) 2024.

The action, according to the parliamentarian, aims to find ways to facilitate the resolution of some of the difficulties faced by the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN).

Narciso Benedito gave this guarantee at the end of a visit to the UCAN facilities, accompanied by the president of the aforementioned Commission, Victor Kajibanga and other members who oversee matters of Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology.

Speaking to the press, coordinator Narciso Benedito said they had registered the concern of paying tuition fees by students in a supervised regime, which is very difficult to deal with, assessing the size of the investment that is made to ensure the quality of the education provided.

He considered that there are constraints

that condition the quality of the investment that UCAN makes in research and university extension, so he intends to take the concern to the National Assembly.

He recalled that they are not part of the Executive, but of the Legislative Power, and this is the way they will use to indirectly influence the Government, in the sense of approving an important instrument of execution (OGE).

Therefore, he continued, in 2024 they will be able to see to what extent, advocating the cause, finding means that facilitate the resolution of some difficulties presented, so that a portion of the budget is more facilitating the minimization of problems.

He recognized that it would not be possible to do this effectively if the difficulties were not known to the UCAN, in order to better intervene in the discussion regarding the approval of the Budget.

For her part, the Rector of UCAN, Maria de Assunção, thanked the visit and took the opportunity to present her concern regarding the Urban Property Tax (IPU), the issue of monitored tuition fees and the quality of students who seek to attend courses at institution he directs.

He considered it important to take into account the concerns presented, if they bear in mind the fundamental challenges of great relevance if they want to embrace quality education, because they are constraining elements for the whole process.

Without specifying the amount of payment of said tax, the Rector explained that due to the facilities they have, in the Palanca pole, as in the extension building, it is a significant value that has its weight in the balance of expenses.

He stated that the UCAN has some projects in its portfolio, such as, for example, the field of health, agronomy and the buildings in the field of Palanca and engineering, but due to lack of funds they do not start.
