Africa-Press – Angola. The practice of diamond mining and fuel smuggling continues to motivate the illegal entry and stay of foreign citizens in the Lunda-Norte province, especially from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to the spokesperson for the National Police in Lunda-Norte, Domingos Muanafumo, who presented the operational report on Monday as part of “Operation Connection,” immigrants use “shortcuts” to enter the national territory, with the aim of engaging in diamond mining and related crimes.
He reported that last weekend, 1,286 DRC citizens were detained for illegal entry and stay in the national territory, who were staying in mining areas in the municipalities of Dundo, Canzar, Camaxilo, and LoĢvua.
He said that after administrative and immigration procedures, the immigrants were repatriated.
In the same operation, he continued, five tons of wood, 2,260 liters of fuel and ten diamonds were seized, which will be handed over to the General Tax Administration and ENDIAMA E.P. as custodians.Operation Connection, launched in October of this year, aims to combat illegal immigration, illegal mining and trafficking of diamonds, fuel smuggling, and related crimes.
