According to the director of the Studies Office of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Alexandre Barrete, this amount represents an increase of 1.38%, compared to 2021, the year in which the harmful effects of the Covid-19 pandemic were still being felt in the country. world.
The official, who was speaking during the Balance of the Year 2022 on “The performance and perspectives of the diamond segment”, made it known that in 2022 the main destinations for exports of diamonds, produced in the national territory, were the United Arab Emirates, with 67 .91%, Belgium with 21.25% and China with 10.82%.
During this period, he explained, Angola produced 8.75 million carats, of which 8.71 million came from industrial production and 46,311 carats from semi-industrial production.
Compared to the year 2021, it indicated that there was an increase in the volume of diamonds produced on a scale of approximately 0.37%.
However, in the period of 2022, he explained that, despite a relative growth, the market registered a shortage, due to the sanctions imposed on diamonds from Russia, which caused an increase in demand for this commodity in the international market and, consequently, the price rise.
