Africa-Press – Angola. Around forty fire specialists from the Civil Protection and Fire Services (SPCB) in the eastern region (Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte and Moxico), have been taking part since today, Tuesday, in the city of Saurimo, in a course on comprehensive fire management. civil protection risk.
During three days, participants will address “Understanding risks”, “Elaboration of contingency plans against disasters”, “Disaster reduction and prevention strategy”, “Coordination of reception centers and strategies” and “Civil protection logistics in Angola”.
On the occasion, the National Director of Risk and Disaster Reduction of the SPCB, Edson Domingos, said that the seminar will strengthen the institutional capacity of local bodies, given that phenomena that occur with greater intensity are increasingly frequent and damage has been increasing. growing.
He explained that the staff must be capable of carrying out actions aimed at preventing risks within communities, as well as knowing how to respond to different disasters.
With this training, he stressed, participants will be able to analyze, identify risks and propose prevention plans.
The representative of the International Organization for Migration Angola (IOM), Cláudia Victor, said that climate change has affected the world, hence the need for firefighters to be able to respond to any eventuality.
He stated that natural phenomena have also forced communities to migrate, exposing themselves to various vulnerabilities, which require new approaches in the field of humanitarian assistance.
He said that IOM will continue to collaborate with local and national authorities to find, prepare and reinforce responses to climate disasters based on international practices.
In turn, the acting delegate of the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), firefighter commissioner Manuel Queta, asserted that this action aims to provide staff with practical knowledge and techniques for responding to the risks of disasters, for the performance of their day-to-day functions.
“This seminar is intended to guarantee that we are all aligned, in terms of language and methods”, he stressed.
He underlined that the focus on staff training is indispensable for promoting the safety of populations and their assets.
The seminar is promoted by IOM in collaboration with the Angolan Government.
