Africa-Press – Angola. Luanda – The Economic and Social Council, a body aimed at assisting the President of the Republic, suggested, this Friday, structuring solutions and greater assistance to the needy population, within the framework of measures to minimize the effects of poverty.

At the first ordinary meeting of the current year, the advisers discussed the program that aims to create policies to support families in situations of poverty or vulnerability.

Among the Angolan Government’s programs in this direction, KWENDA stands out, estimated at USD 420 million. This program is financed in USD 320 million by the World Bank, with another USD 100 million coming from the National Treasury.

At this Friday’s session, the advisors addressed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) extended financing program, December 2018 – December 2021.

In this particular case, the fiscal and external accounts, foreign exchange market and the creation of conditions for the diversification of the economy, in order to promote the country’s sustained growth, with the partnership of the private sector, deserved to be highlighted.Â

Regarding the relationship with the IMF, the body made a favorable assessment of the sustainability of public finances and recognized the prevalence of some risks.

Still in the economic segment, the advisers recommend the improvement of external and public accounts, while pointing out the existence of the inflation challenge.

The Economic and Social Council is made up of forty-five members, chosen among recognized experts in the areas of economic and social sciences, as well as entrepreneurs and managers who will serve a two-year term.
